Below are some of the things that i would like to more about track and field:

Do any of the Olympic US Runners get paid to compete?

Outside of training and competing in he Olympics do they have everyday jobs?

What does it take to be "drafted" into the Olympic track team?

What is your mental approach? How do you stay positive even when things aren't working out?

How do you stay calm but also having to be aggressive at the same time during an event?

What is the salary of an Olympic track athlete? 

In many towns there aren't many youth track clubs. Is there a possibility that track will began to die down even more than what it already is?

Billion dollar ball

Yesterday we met with the author of "Billion -dollar Ball", by Gilbert Gaul. he came a gave a great presentation on his book and all of the research that he did to find it, all of the interviews that he had with different colleges, and how college athletic programs made their money. He talked about how hard it was to get interviews with some of the presidents of the colleges because they were worried about their and the schools image. He also talked about how college coaches made way more money than any of the professors and even the president of the college. He took trips around the world and sat ion on many different press conferences. What was ironic to me was the fact that he had never taken a journalism course yet he was able to write a book as well as this one. Also he claimed that he wasn't a sports fan he just like the watch the game and add up the numbers.

Youth Sports

In class we have been looking into the world of youth sports more specifically football. There are many controversies of the dangers of our youth playing the sport. There should be more attention brought to this subject and the series causes of it. We watched a few videos some were Rethinking youth sports, Youth sports as a development zone Ted Johnson, and Coaches and Parents. The most important to me is Rethinking Youth Sports. There should be way more safety watches since they are children. Though the sport is professional since they are younger there should more attention brought to it and more safety measure that should be taken.

Lolo Drug test

In the world of track and field there are a lot of mayhem of drug abuse in the athletes. Reporter Mike Foss wrote an article about her experience the night of her drug test including her tweets. He was an for the win USA reporter then moved up to vice president of fox news. Lori "Lolo" Jones is an American track and field and bobsled athlete who specializes in the 60 and 100 meter hurdles. She won three NCAA titles and garnered 11 All-American honors while at LSU. She also became a Olympic bob sledder after her time with track But, of course there's always got to be some type of rumor trailing around on these athletes. Lolo Jones was surprised just as we were when she was being forced to take a drug test on her BIRTHDAY. "I was chosen to be drug tested right before I left for my bday party, so the drug testers were obligated to shadow me until i peed in a cup.

 As an Olympic athlete you are required to be drug test and the most normal times. Well, good thing the satr has a sense of humor because she took it as joke the entire time. afterwards she brought the drug tester to her party and played a joke on them all.

Today on March 7, CHS had a presentation. The presenter mentioned Curt Shilling and Yuri weaver. Curt Shilling a former American Major league baseball right hand pitcher maybe wrong in many situations but most definitely not this one. On his twitter, he tweeted about his daughter being accepted to college and being a proud dad. Some of the students from this school saw the tweet and began to throw many sexual inappropriate slurs at her. At first they weren't that harmful but still pretty offense" I'll take care of her" "I can't wait to party with her". But after a while many more started to jump on the bandwagon and the tweets began to get a little hectic.Shilling then had a few choice words to say back to these student on campus.He tracked down the two guys on the campus and posted their information on twitter. He also posted the screenshots of tweets that and DMs that were posted and said about his daughter. Later on the two students were suspended from the campus and twitter had also suspended their accounts. Also, shilling also apologized to his daughter who he felt he might of embarrassed during all of this.

Tennessee AD stands by embattled football coach Butch Jones

"An amended complaint filed Wednesday stated former Tennessee football player Drae Bowles assisted a woman who said she had been raped by two other players and that later he was attacked by teammates and told by coach Butch Jones he had 'betrayed the team.'". A female who reported a sexual assault, accompanied by one of her friends who also happened to be a football player didn't expect the outcome they received. Though the female suffered the most from this act, her friend who supported and helped her also received some heat from his coach and players. He was beat up by his own teammates for helping report the crime and was told by his coached that he " betrayed" their team.
Later on the Athletic Director, Dave Hart finds out about the situation and surprisingly sides with the football coach and team against the female and former player. The coach claimed that he was only trying to "assists" bowels. The AD also claimed that he has "empathy and sympathy" for any victim of sexual assault and will defend himself against any allegations made against him about his character. The AD claimed that each person is entitled to due process so he's giving them the benefit of the doubt.The staff of the Tennessee sports program really needs to be be evaluated  for even considering the fact that these two players didn't sexually assault this female. Also, there was nothing being done about the fact that the third player being beat up for helping the victim.

  In class, we've been watching a documentary about Sexual assault on college campuses. While watching it the biggest thing that stuck out to me was how unimportant this seemed to be to the staff of the college. We listened to many different stories about teens who were attacked on their campus. There was also statics on each college in the U.S. on how many reports there were from student that were attacked. For example, Notre Dame there were 204 reports of sexual assault with maybe 1 or 2 expulsions. We listened to a story of three girls who were all victims of rape. They came together, when they were in school after their assault had happened, they reported but didn't get the justice that they deserved. They started a movement on finding justice for those who were victims of sexual assault. Of course, when they went public and word got out about it that's when many forms of harassment began.
  They didn't stop they started they found out about a law called Title IX, prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. These girls used title ix to defend their argument “We do know it's a civil rights law, but it’s in this framework that you’re not having an equal college experience and education because of what happened to you and how you’re treated after,” Clark says (one of the three girls). What grabbed my attention the most is the fact that they had so much negativity coming at them about their movement, when I honestly thought that it would have a lot of support from others on their campus. There were threats being mad on social media, to their faces, and even vandalizing their rooms. This caught the eye of other college student from all over the states and many of them began to come forward with their rape stories. This caused their movement to grow rapidly to where colleges from around the states started to have their own movements.

Are Athletes Being let off the hook to easily?

Not anywhere anyone not even he expected he would out of all places. Kobe Bryant, 5 time NBA champion, shooting guard of the Los Angeles Lakers lands himself into a situation where no one wants to be involved in. The player was allegedly accused of sexual assault from a 19 year old cleaning maid attacking her in his Colorado suite. the woman who accused Bryant of rape reported to the police that a simple conversation quickly turned into an out of hand situation when he grabbed her by her neck, bent her over a chair and attacked her asking her "you're not going to tell anyone about this, right?". Bryant admitted that the sex was consensual. After trial was over, Bryant walked away with no charges what so ever the prosecutors dropped all charges.

Star quarter back, Peyton manning who plays for the Denver Broncos was also accused of sexual allegations. While in college, at Tennessee University he was accused of sexual harassment. The victim who was the sports trainer at Tennessee University accused Manning of placing his genitals on her face while she was examining him for an injury. Of course Manning denied it and instead said the he was "mooning" a teammate.  he was never subject to a police allegation and later the the lawsuit was settled with her leaving the university.  She sued him a total of 2 times. Both of these assaults come together to prove that because of them famous big time athletes they are allowed to get away with certain things that most wouldn't.

#SuperBowl50

#Superbowl50 Denver Broncos take on the North Carolina Panthers. To their advantage they succeed and beat them Broncos 24, Panthers 10. The NFL Superbowl is the most watched event on tv for all of the year, and during this time there are the new popular commercials, the game obviously, and also the most talked about halftime show. This year at #Superbowl50 for the halftime show the performers were Coldplay, Bruno Mars, And Beyonce. Watching the show from my POV when the group Coldplay was performing it seemed as if their theme was, Gay Pride, with all of the controversial arguments going on around the world and laws being made to support this group of people. But, the theme quickly changed as Female Performer, Beyonce performed her new single, which came out the day before, Formation. Some of the songs theme consisted of #blacklivesmatter, she also had her dancers dressed as the Black Panthers,Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the fact that she was a strong black woman in America.

I feel that she choose the perfect timing to perform this song and get message out, because the Superbowl is the most watched event all over the world. When it comes to very touchy subjects like this specifically, you have to be very careful with what you say and how you say it. As an African American teen, I feel that in order to get your message out you either do it big where its going to grab the peoples attention or don't attempt at all. There is a bunch of controversy going on all over the media about how the NFL let it slip by and let her perform her song. This wasn't the only subject that was exposed on TV either, in the beginning part of the halftime show they were obviously promoting Gay Pride but there is absolutely no controversy about that at all. Where is the real problem at in all of this?

Introduction

Welcome to On the Track with Tamiya. This will be about the not so popular sport, Track and Field.
I enjoy to watch college track meets on TV. My favorite college track team is PENN State. My all time favorite is watching the Olympic track time trials and of course the summer Olympics. Just like anyone else i like to see America and Jamaica run against each other and see who will come out on top. As a Junior in high school, I've been running track for about 6 years now all 3 in middle school and 3 in high school. the relationship between track and i is like a love hate thing. I HATE practicing but i LOVE competing. Some of the track meets that my team have competed in are Penn Relays, NYC armory, Ocean Breeze, and many more where Sectionals, Sates and Meet of Champs take place.

There are many issues that can be argued about the sport. Some may say that it doesn't get much exposure on TV. Others may argue that sport may seem very sexes separating the males and females.
